FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • A decontamination wash or “decon wash” is a procedure aimed at eliminating the most harmful embedded contaminants, such as sharp metal particles. Often, these tiny metal pieces are not visible to the naked eye, but rest assured, the majority of cars are affected by this type of contamination. If this metal is allowed to accumulate on the paint surface, it can lead to oxidation issues in the future.

  • In the process of a 1-step polish, a single compound or polishing product is utilised to eliminate minor to moderate surface imperfections like swirl marks, light scratches, and oxidation. This approach aims to improve gloss and clarity while also addressing some level of imperfection.

  • The 2-step polish process is a more thorough approach. It usually starts with the use of a cutting compound to address deep scratches, heavy oxidation, and significant imperfections. This compound effectively evens out the paint surface but might result in some haze or micro-marring. In the second step, a finer polish is used to enhance the finish, eliminating any haze from the cutting compound and restoring a high level of clarity and depth.

  • A clay treatment is a process to further remove contaminations on a vehicles clear coat after the initial decontamination wash, such as tar from roads, tree sap, industrial fallout, iron filings from train tracks, as well as water pollutants.

This removal process will massively improve the paint surface's finish and feel and is recommended before any wax or sealants or other chosen protection is used.
